The following are stories of just a few of the hundreds, if not thousands, of veterans of the Stonewall Riots. For many, their presence at the bar those nights would be merely a blip in long lives of activism and bravery. We also wish to acknowledge that many accounts of that night have been lost over the course of the last fifty years due to oppression experienced by those in the LGBTQ+ community: the AIDS crisis, poverty, and violence to name a few. We will never know all the names of those who stayed, who fought back, but for each individual we have chosen to feature, we can be assured there were hundreds more just like them.
